Frequently Ask Questions
FAQ
Do you accept health insurance?
No, but we do accept FSA and HSA credit cards - you'll need to verify whether or not massage therapy is an eligible expense for your card, and whether or not you need a Letter of Medical Necessity from your doctor.
TIP: If your insurance covers massage, ask your insurance provider for an email list of massage therapists that accept your insurance, this should help narrow down your search.
How often should I receive a massage?
For those who use massage as preventative care or to manage daily stress, one massage per month is common. Weekly sessions may be desirable if you are receiving massage for injury relief or to relieve chronic tightness or stress that is interfering with your daily life. There are many people who incorporate massage therapy at least twice a month for optimal therapeutic relief.
How early should I arrive for my massage?
New clients should arrive 10 minutes prior to their massage to fill out paperwork. Returning clients should arrive 5 minutes prior to their session to discuss their sessions goals with their therapist.
Should I get completely undressed?
You should undress to your desired level of comfort. For a full body massage, some prefer to be completely undressed, while others prefer to keep their undergarments on. This is completely up to you. You will undress and dress in the privacy of your massage room and will be securely covered the entire time during your massage.
Will I be covered during the session?
You will be properly covered or draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be exposed. You should always let your therapist know if you are uncomfortable for any reason during your massage session.
Do I have to be covered during my massage?
In Washington state draping is mandatory – it’s the law. Once you are undressed and on the table under the drape, the therapist will only uncover the part of your body being worked on. The genitals and breasts (women and men) will not be uncovered. If you and the therapist discussed a need for work on your abdomen area, a second sheet will be used to cover the breasts so the main sheet can be moved to expose the abdomen.
Do I have to have my full body massaged?
Your massage session will be customized to suit your needs. In general, those who prefer a Swedish Massage for relaxation typically like full body massage. Others who only want a specific area of pain or tightness focused on can have a massage that does just that, or if they prefer, a full body massage with an emphasis of their session spent on the area of pain or tightness. When you arrive for your appointment your therapist will ask you questions and you can discuss your needs and concerns.
What should I do before, during, and after my massage?
It is very important for you to show up to your massage well hydrated. This will prepare your body to receive the massage and increases the likelihood of the therapist to treat your aches and pains with lasting effects.
Show up to your appointment 5-10 minutes early to go to the bathroom, fill out or update any paperwork, talk to your therapist and prepare for your massage.
During your massage, your job is to relax and enjoy your time. It is very important that you feel confident to tell your massage therapist if the pressure is too light, too deep, if you are too cold, too hot, you don't like the music, oil or lotion preference, etc., so that you can get the most out of your massage.
After the massage, stay hydrated. If you do not drink plenty of water after your massage and into the next day, you run the risk of feeling sore and fatigued.
What are your cleaning procedures?
The massage table, stool and all other touched surfaces such as handles and doorknobs are wiped down and disinfected between clients. Any tools used such as cups or stones are washed with soap and hot water after use, then disinfected.
Also, our room has two Germ Guardian air purifiers with filters changed at manufacturer recommended intervals. We also have face masks and bottles of hand sanitizer available for you. (Face masks are optional, not required.)
What is your cancelation policy if I can't make my appointment?
Please call or text at least 24 hours in advance if you are unable to make your appointment. There will be a Rescheduling Fee of $60 if you fail to cancel your appointment at least 24 hours in advance.
What happens if I arrive to my appointment late?
Please contact your massage therapist if you expect to arrive late. If you arrive within the first 15 minutes of your appointment, we will do our best to optimize the remaining time of your appointment. In the case that you do not arrive within the first 15 minutes of your appointment, your appointment will be marked as a "no-show" and you will be invoiced for the full amount of the appointment, as outlined within our office policies.
Do I have to be a gym member to get a massage?
Although we're located within the same building as Lake Stevens Athletic Club, we're separate businesses. You do not have to be a member of the gym to get a massage. If you want to become a member, let Lake Stevens Athletic Club know we sent you!
Is it customary to leave a tip?
